Visiting Programs and Workshops
Onomiluʻs educational workshops focus on fostering cultural awareness and environmental stewardship in haumana (students) and community along with studies in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as they relate to the study of loko-ia. Programs include the study of traditional fishpond practices, hands-on restoration, fishpond management along with science-based learning. Students have the opportunity to participate in observation and data collection, water sampling and testing. They are introduced to native flora and fauna as well as invasive species and their impact on the environment and health of lokoʻia and their effect on the adjacent reef and coastline. Our goal is to educate and encourage future generations to become advocates and stewards of these historic resources.
